6th Annual - Eric Crane MotorcyclesPlus Memorial Fun Run & BBQ

Dare to Care - Drive to Survive - It’s about ALL our kids!!


Maybe the economic stresses had some folks stressed and pinching their hard earned dollars, but that didn't stop almost 130 participants from coming out to enjoy the ride on this absolutely beautiful day! Many other folks also joined in the festivities simply for the food, live music provided by two bands (24/7 and Deck 51), and horseshoes; and the kids had a blast jumping on the mega bounce and dominating the volleyball court as an "over-sized sandbox". This year I made some changes to the route and it took the riders on a scenic 80 miles loop local country roads through Catawba, Iredell and Alexander counties.

Sometimes I don't even know what to say at the amazing support this event continues to receive from both the community and my many hard-working loyal volunteers. Every single year we have set our goals to have 100% donations for everything needed to run this event, and every single year (including this year) we have achieved this goal! We are proud to announce that we have raised over $3,000, with promises for additional donations to follow!

Jimmy Mead won $100 for first place in the poker hand with a full house, Ami Berry won $75 for second with a pair of Aces and tens; Bobby Franklin won $25 for third with a pair of Aces and fours, and Tim Anderson won $50 for worst hand. Marily Mensch won $220 in the 50/50 raffle drawing, and Samantha White won the drawing for a pair of Panther vs Redskin tickets. Everybody paid attention to the MANY door prize tickets that we gave out included Peoples' Bank $100 savings bonds, $250 1/2 day fishing trip for two on Lake Norman by Morrow Guide Service, Hooters VIP Wing parties, and a whole bunch of gifts certificates and items from local restraurants and other area companies.

The Eric Crane Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000 annually to a qualified senior of the Bandys High School music program. This Scholarship fund has already benefited 5 very deserving past recipients (Tracy Bass-2004, Rachel Beebe-2006, Amanda Freeman-2007, Joey Carinci-2008 and Gary Martin-2009) and, even after these award payments, the balance in the Scholarship account will be over $21,225 when the profits from this event are deposited! Our overall goal has been to bring the scholarship account balance up to a level that the annual award payments will continue to perpetuate off the earned interest, and we are very close to achieving this goal! Unless something changes (i.e., more donations keep rollin' so our profits go over $4000), mark your calendar now for the "7th annual & goal" to be held next year on Saturday September 11, 2010.
